Christina Betancourt Johnson is the founder and CEO of Rooted Therapeutics and Standard Wellness Maryland (SWM), making it the first cannabis cultivation operation in the United States of America with a Black and Latina majority owner.
Christina is a results-driven executive that possesses more than more than 20 years of demonstrated success in revenue generation, financial management, partnership development, community stakeholder engagement, and executive leadership.
Her servant-leadership style helps organizations thrive, establishing healthy teams with a track record of profitable business outcomes. She is committed to good governance and corporate social responsibility with a charismatic energy that inspires and motivates those with whom she works.
As the former Executive Director for Conscious Capitalism, Christina helped to create new and innovative strategies for growth, elevate the profile of the organization, promoted active participation and growth of sponsors, and ensured programmatic effectiveness with long-term opportunities for increasing organizational visibility and presence.
Throughout her career, Christina led successful strategic planning efforts, effectively lobbied with local, state and national legislatures, and raised more than $60 million dollars for national and international nonprofits. As a former real estate executive, she oversaw an active portfolio of mixed use and multi-family developments in both Maryland and Washington, DC.
Christina has maintained a commitment to social justice, equality and identifying strategies for wealth building and wellness in Black and Brown communities. As CEO of SWM, she uses her cumulative nonprofit, real estate, healthcare, lobbying and executive management experiences to lead a sustainable and community-centered cannabis brand. Christina’s purpose driven cannabis business harnesses the power of brilliant and professionally fulfilled teams while providing natural alternatives to prescription pharmaceuticals, a philosophy that is core to SWM business model.
Christina graduated Magna Cum Laude from both Hampton University and the University of Dallas, with a Bachelor of Science in marketing and a Master of Business Administration in organizational development. Her endeavors have earned a “Leading Woman” award by the Maryland Daily Record and recognition as a “40 under 40” at Hampton University. She’s been tapped as a guest commentator and featured on Fox News, WJLA (ABC7), NBC4, and several talk radio shows.
She is an engaged resident of Montgomery County where she currently serves on the governance committee and board of the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, Conscious Capitalism and is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Christina resides with her family in Kensington, Maryland.
